Meet the Product

Atlassian Confluence is a powerful knowledge management tool to create, organize and discuss work with your team. But, it has one basic problem: it isn't very pretty. The Default Theme that comes with out-of-the-box Confluence is highly functional, but not very aesthetic. And it matters! Research shows that visually consistent and well-branded sites are more engaging for users–and that translates directly to more consistent use and more productivity. Sites that aren't comfortable and inviting don't get contributed to or used as often.

How Theme Press works

You assign Theme Press as your Confluence theme (in place of Default Theme), and then you can manage multiple themes through the app. You customize and modify themes to match your organization or departmental needs.

Theme Press sits right on top of your Confluence instance and manages the display of each page as it's built. Based on your pre-determined design decisions, it creates consistent and visually appealing pages. Theme Press generates the necessary CSS and HTML, and inserts it directly into your page code as the page is generated and displayed. You make the design and content display decisions with Theme Press and the app does the hard work behind the scenes.

When installed, Theme Press creates the Theme Press Default Space. This space holds architect pages that define the formats of your pages, including the header, footer, banner as well as menus and layouts. These template pages can be copied, renamed, modified and then used as alternatives to your formatting on a space or page basis. Menus are controlled in architect pages and both the type of menu and the options on the menus can be modified directly in the pages. Layouts are especially versatile, allowing you to change your page display from a single content block (the Confluence default) to a layout of blocks, columns and layers that works best for your content.

What you can do

Once you're using Theme Press to manage your themes, a multitude of options are opened up. Websites are more consistently branded and controlled--becoming friendlier and more engaging to users.

  • Create different layouts to display your content most effectively
    • Access content in multiple columns and blocks, instead of a single block
  • Manage color palettes to match your visual identity
    • Provide pre-approved palettes for users to allow flexibility but assure consistency and proper usage
  • Make custom font choices to match your needs
  • Change out logos to control your brand
  • Customize menus to provide effective navigation
    • Select from a variety of different menu types to match your needs
  • Use expandability to make pages more accessible but still rich with content
    • Expanding blocks or spinning blocks can hide/reveal content
  • Theme Press macros can aggregate and display site content in a variety of ways and control access
    • Display live content from multiple pages
    • Include content from other pages to assure consistency (Don't Repeat Yourself!)
    • Restrict content by user or group
