A taxonomy is a collection of terms (words), each of which represents some thing or activity of importance to your organization. Taxonomies are commonly used to label documents (i.e. Confluence pages) for the purposes of assigning meaning, organizing, and searching content. They are often valuable "sources of truth" for the official names of things (e.g. our taxonomy specifies that we refer to Theme Press as such, and not "ThemePress" or "themepress").

Individual terms in a taxonomy are often grouped into categories that represent a particular aspect or facet of the domain. This categorization helps keep taxonomy terms organized in a meaningful way.

Here the headers show five categories (Departments, Office Locations,... etc.), with the official terms listed in the rows underneath. Though simple, such a taxonomy can easily translate to labels used on a page, thereby aiding in search and organization across a siteAdd definition/concept description here.

Info

If using:

  • Replace me with something to note about this concept that falls outside the scope of the Definition section; and
  • Add the tight-bottom class to the Definition block above to narrow the gap between the two blocks

Brikit Targeted Search makes it easy to build and maintain a taxonomy for your site. Terms are represented by filters, organized into groups that you define.
