Release Types

Confluence has a rapid release program offering new features and key bug fixes.

To keep in step with them, Brikit releases new versions of our apps regularly.

There are three different types of releases.

Major Product Release

Signified by a change in version integer (2.9 to 3.0, 1.2.2 to 2.0, etc), it contains significant or breaking changes. It may include major new functionality; changes to user interface; or integration with other products. It may also deprecate features. We recommend that large or complex production environments install major releases on a test server before deploying them live.

Minor Feature or Bug Fix Release

Signified by a change in the version's first decimal number (2.6.4 to 2.7, 1.2 to 1.3, etc), it can contain new features; changes to existing features; removal of features; or addressing critical bugs.

Bug Fix or Patch Release

Identified by an incremental number change at the second decimal number (2.2.2 to 2.2.3, 1.2.1 to 1.2.2, etc), these releases can contain small bug fixes; stability and performance improvements; or correction of typographical errors. Depending on the nature of the bug fixes, they may introduce minor changes to existing features, but do not include new features or high risk changes, so they can be adopted quickly. We recommend regularly upgrading to the latest bug fix release for your current version. Many organizations refer to these as 'maintenance' releases.
