Taxonomies
Lists of words that represent concepts and entities in a domain
A taxonomy is a collection of terms (words), each of which represents some part of a domain or enterprise. Taxonomies are commonly used to label documents in a given domain.
Individual terms in a taxonomy are often grouped into categories that represent a particular aspect or facet of the domain. This categorization helps keep taxonomy terms organized in a meaningful way.
Example of a simple taxonomy:
| Domain: Imaginary organization that makes widgets | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Departments | Office Locations | Employee Status | Current Projects | Past Projects |
| Accounting | Jupiter | Full time | Widget C | Widget A |
| Human Resources | Mars | Part time | Widget D | Widget B |
| Marketing | Saturn | Contract | Widget E | |
| Widget Design | Venus | Widget F | ||
| Widget Production | ||||
Brikit Targeted Search makes it easy to build and maintain a taxonomy for your site. Terms are represented by filters, organized into groups that you define.
