Use this guide to help determine readiness for launching a site.

Considerations

Here's a helpful set of considerations as you go about completing the pre-launch checklist:

  • Always test in a dev or test environment before pushing to production. Once in production test again before launch announcement.
  • If already in production, consider changing visibility permissions until readiness and launch date
  • Test with your organization's standard enterprise browser (or browsers)
  • Put yourself in the mindset of your users. This may be a read-only viewer of the site, or a content-editor. Be sure to have test-user accounts (and/or groups) with the different permissions
  • Start with a list of spaces (i.e. the Confluence Space Directory) and test each page of each space (if part of launch).
  • On each page, scan each from top to bottom

Style and Theme Consistency

  • Click through each page and check to see that logos, fonts, colors, and etc. are all consistent.
  • Do you notice any oddly-rendered pages or blocks?

Navigation

  • Click through each item in your main (header) menu. Do dropdowns behave as they should? Are all the links correctly linked? Does each page maintain the appropriate space or site menu?
  • Do the same with any Footer links
  • Test your Navigator or Page Tree or Table of Contents menus
  • Are there any "dead ends" where users cannot navigate back to the space or site? Ensure that there is always a way out or back
  • ?

Labels

  • Are all your pages labeled appropriately? (Should they be?)
  • Are the labels organized and easily understood applied?
  • If you have Targeted Search, are the filters and filter groups arranged as they need to be to facilitate feeds, discovery, and search filtering?

Content

  • Check for (search and scan) for any remaining filler text ("lorem ipsum")
  • Check all your page titles and headings–are they clear and distinct? Are they helpful? hierarchical?
  • Check all on-page content for typos, errors, omissions
  • ?

App Functionality

  • If you have Theme Press, check to see that you can edit blocks, use the Designer Panel to see blocks (test by adding and removing a border style)
  • If you have Targeted Search, check to see that your search box is returning the results you'd expect to see. Check the macros for expected results. If you are using Content Query macros, check to see that it is returning the correct set of results. Try changing a label or modified date (or some other parameter) to see if you get different results.
  • If you have Content Flow, try out a workflow. This may mean creating a new page (or editing an existing page), applying a workflow, and running it through the steps.
  • If you have Blueprint Maker, try creating a space or page from an existing blueprint. Can you walk through the whole wizard without issue?
  • If you have Calendar Integrations, try viewing an event, scrolling through months. Do the expected dates and presentation of those events occur?
  • ?

Access and Permissions

  • Are the right components and pages and spaces hidden?
  • Are the right components and pages and spaces accessible?
  • Can the appropriate editors access the right places?
  • Can the appropriate editors access the Theme Press Designer Panel?

  • Aim for 4 or fewer related links.  If we need more, that's okay.  Be judicious.  Delete me when you're done.
