Rich links display information from the destination page. As such, how rich links are displayed can be managed at the destination.

Use h4 for section headings

If you don't want numbers in the section headings, simply remove the "numbered" class from this block.

Note/Tip/Warning/Info blocks below are collapsed by default. If you want to use any of these, try to keep to just one per page. You may use two if necessary, but in general, try to limit these.

What the rich link macro looks for:

  • Graphic
  • Title
  • Description
  • Space name & space icon (always taken from available Confluence information)

More Tightly Controlled Curation of Rich Link Content

There is a default sequence of places that a macro displaying rich links will go to look for what it needs to display. The first place it looks is the first block on the destination page that has the "Meta Properties" tag selected.

You'll find it here:

Theme Press Control Panel > Page tab > Block > Handling > Meta Properties

Creating a Block to Manage Rich Link Content

For tight control over rich link content display, it's advantageous to create a first block on the destination page that is hidden and will be used ONLY for a rich link, but will otherwise be invisible to users. In addition to the Meta Properties check box being selected for the block, also set the Initial Display to collapse.

If there is no block with Meta Properties selected, the content will be found according to the following scheme:

  • The first image found in the attachments list with the label "rich-link"
  • The first image found in the first excerpt macro
  • The first background image from a page attachment found on a content-layer on the page (checks the container, then the layer)
  • The first background image from a page attachment found on a content-block on the page
  • The first image found embedded on the page
  • The first image found in the attachments list
  • The text from the first heading, checking the higher-level headings first
  • The page title
  • The text from any paragraphs in the Excerpt macro on the page
  • The text from any paragraphs in the first Content Block on the page
  • The text from any paragraphs in the page body, truncated to 255 characters

  1. Replace me with something to note about this how-to entry that falls outside the scope of all other sections; and
  2. Add the tight-bottom class to the Steps block above to narrow the gap between the two blocks.

  • Aim for 4 or fewer related links.  If we need more, that's okay.  Be judicious.  Delete me when you're done.
